Introduction Notebook Computers

A laptop computer is a laptop that can be carried over and used almost anywhere, like a notebook. The portable computer usually weighs about 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) and is small enough to fit in a briefcase. The laptop often have all the functionality of a desktop, but less powerful, more expensive, and greater portability.

The first commercially available portable computer was presented to the public in 1981 and was named the Osborne 1. This is understandable bulky laptop got to see that these days. However, this revolutionary notebook computer - that do not work on battery power and had to be plugged in AC power - took the business world by storm due to its portability, a feature that is noticeably absent Hefti in desks.

Then came the Compaq notebook public for the first time in 1983 and also ran on AC power instead of batteries. The first IBM-compatible laptop proved better than the IBM laptop which was introduced a year later.

The Compass GRID 1101, published in 1982, was a laptop in the true sense of the term. The idea of William Moggridge, this laptop has the typical design of the deck - where the screen folds up and closes against the keyboard - which is now virtually the industry standard. This laptop is not compatible with IBM, running on batteries and has a price prohibitive. As you can guess, was used by the few - mostly soldiers and astronauts.

Sharp PC-5000 and the Gavilan laptop, which appeared in 1984, are also worthy of special mention. As a matter of fact, the Gavilan was the first laptop that was promoted as a laptop and has a cursor control device similar to a touch pad. Both had LCD screens and spoon cases.

The laptop called Kyocera Kyotronic, first introduced in 1983, powered by AA batteries, was a great commercial success in large part due to its portability, battery life and low price.

The first true laptop IBM IBM-compatible PC was the convertible, which was introduced in 1986 - followed by Toshiba T1000 and T1200 in the following year. In 1989, Apple introduced the Macintosh portable laptop.

Since 1991, the innovations introduced by the PowerBook series of standard features Apple has become the modern laptop. These include building on the touch pad, as the palm rest, Ethernet networking, trackball, and 256-color displays. Then came the series of IBM Thinkpad, which was a very popular laptop.

Now, almost an essential complement to the business world, the laptop is here to stay.

  1. This is truly a great new piece of equipment having different benefits; they save space, money, and time. It has become more of a necessity due to its compact size and the convenience to carry around. These are useful for people who travel a lot, and need their machines with them. Thanks a lot.

  2. I have one that I take around with me to classes which has been perfect. The problem is my roommate just stepped on it and cracked to the LCD screen. I'm still in the process of finding a computer repair shop to take it to, but I'm anxious for it to work again. Is there really a laptop run on AA batteries?
